This book will help pastors, music directors, and seminarians understand the introit texts for practical use in today's liturgies. The introit chant is the last of the Mass propers to be researched in detail. Here Tietze presents their history and development through the ages. He has also composed performable congregational settings of the proper parts of the Mass for the liturgical year.

Christoph Tietze holds a BA in organ performance from San Jose State University. After a year of private study in Paris under Jean Langlais, he continued with graduate study at Yale University's Institute of Sacred Music, earning a Master of Music in 1981 and a Master of Musical Arts in 1982. Since then, Christoph has been the Chairman of the Musicianship Department of the New York School of Liturgical Music, Music Director at St. Agnes Cathedral in Rockville Centre, NY, and Music Director at St. Mary's Cathedral in San Francisco. In 2003, Christoph earned a Doctor of Sacred Music degree from the Graduate Theological Foundation in Indiana, where he is a fellow.
