Please note: This book has not been updated with the recently approved translation of the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults but the content is still useful to ministers as we work on a new edition. To pre-order the new edition, click here.
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults should be an integral part of every parish. An important part of this process is establishing a good catechecumenal team under the leadership of the pastor and his designated RCIA coordinator. Ideally the coordinator is someone what has been a part of the process and has had training in the theological and practical aspects. Yet every so often, a new person is asked to assume the role of coordinator without sufficient knowledge or with little or no exposure to the initiation process. The role of coordinator could be daunting for these coordinator neophytes.
This resource will renew veteran coordinators of Christian initiation in their role and introduce novices to the many aspects of their work. It provides the vision of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, outlines the roles of the coordinator in animating the parish and forming the team, and presents catechesis as framed within liturgical prayer. Throughout The Role of the Coordinator in Christian Initiation, practical tips are offered to help the process flow smoothly in the parish. Pastoral concerns surrounding marriage and other issues are also addressed. In addition, a table is provided for a visual representation of the stages and periods throughout the rite.
"When you’re asked to coordinate the RCIA for your parish, you simply must begin by reading the Rite from cover to cover—the black and the red ink. There is no substitute.
